Try stingray feeding at Gisborne, this is a really cool activity, something very different but very Kiwi - given our love of the outdoors. It is even one of the North Island activities on "The Kiwi Experience" backpackers bus travel of NZ. I loved it & learned not to be afraid of the stingrays, I was able to pat them and had them eating out of my hand!
